Chipotle urged to be less cruel in chicken slaughter
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) appealed to Chipotle Mexican Grill to prefer less cruel method of chicken slaughter.
PETA submitted a shareholder resolution asking Chipotle to favor chicken suppliers that use more humane ways of killing chicken.
The group is not only urging Chipotle, but also other fast-food chains and consumers to buy poultry from suppliers that use a technique where the oxygen that chickens breathe is slowly replaced by inert gases.
Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said specifying such a protocol is not practical just yet because it is not used in a large scale to supply the chain's restaurants.
