Danish political party proposes strict regulations on frozen meat

The Danish People's Party (Dansk Folkeparti) have proposed to introduce specific shelf life regulations for meat following recent discoveries of old meat being sold in supermarkets in Denmark.

Current regulations only cover minced meat requiring it to be sold within 24 hours of production. Shelf life regulations are also underway in the EU as a new labelling directive will be proposed in January. The Danish Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Eva Kjer Hansen (the Danish Liberal Party, V) has promised to head the endeavour to introduce freezing dates and sell by dates on all meats in the EU.
