India Top Milk Producer in the World

India is the leading milk producer in the world.

Milk production in India has been assessed at 88.1 million tons during 2003-04, according to Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

India's share is about 0.24 per cent of total world export of milk and milk products.

Bihar, Goa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand apart from northeastern states are particularly deficient in milk production at present as the per capita production of milk is less than half the national average in these states, Pawar said.
