Latvia reports new outbreaks of swine fever

 

 

Latvia's veterinary authorities have reported six fresh outbreaks of classical swine fever in the counties of Dagda, Zilupes and Kraslavas.

 

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report number two on December 17, 2012. According to the report, the swine fever outbreak has affected wild boar (Sus scrofa) populations.

 

A total of nine cases were recorded. The nine affected animals were destroyed.

 

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.

 

According to the OIE, on November 21, 2012, following the CVO order a provisionally infected area where all nine PCR positive wild boars were hunted was established. Totally, 20 wild boars were detected seropositive with Ab ELISA test.
