Morocco extends zero duty on soft wheat imports until April 2013

The Government of Morocco decided to extend activity of the zero duty on imports of soft wheat until the end of April 2013.

Rather poor grain harvest in the country and desire of the local authorities to increase own stocks of the product served as the reason for such decision. It is worth noting that in June-November of 2012 Morocco already imported 2.79 million tonnes of soft wheat up 63.1% compared with the same period last year.

At the same time, the country received 1.2 million tonnes of the grain after the action of duty on grain imports was suspended (October 1, 2012). It should be noted that in the reporting period Brazil was the main supplier of wheat to Morocco, which share in the general imports of the grain totalled 28%. Ukraine took the second place (23%), followed by Argentina (15%), France (14%) and Canada (13%).
