Ukraine ships out nearly a million tonne grain

Ukraine exported around 980,000 tonnes of grain, mostly corn, between December 1 and 16, analyst ProAgro said Monday (Dec 19), basing from Ukraine's sea ports data.

The consultancy said the volume included 664,000 tonnes of corn, 251,000 tonnes of wheat and 39,000 tonnes of barley.

Ukraine exported corn mostly to Egypt (143,840 tonnes), Spain (100,000 tonnes) and Iran (90,000 tonnes). It also sold corn to Portugal, Singapore, Libya, Tunisia and other countries.

Ukrainian wheat went to Spain (74,000 tonnes), Egypt (60,000 tonnes), Israel, Tunisia and other states. Ukraine exported barley to Turkey.

ProAgro said about one million more tonnes of grain, including 860,000 tonnes of corn would be exported in the near future.

Ukraine plans to harvest 55 million tonnes of grain in 2011 and export 23-25 million tonnes in the 2011/12 season (July-June).

Ukrainian officials have said the grain exports reached about seven million tonnes in July to mid-December.
