Informa cuts US 2011 corn land estimate
Informa Economics made a projection that US farmers will plant 90.755 million acres of corn and 77.565 million acres of soy in 2011, trade sources said Friday (Dec 17).
The firm estimated US winter wheat plantings for 2011 at 39.502 million.
In November, Informa forecast 2011 corn plantings at 93.1 million acres, soy at 75.8 million and US all-wheat acreage at 56.1 million.
According to USDA, US farmers planted 88.2 million acres of corn and 77.7 million acres of soy in 2010. US winter wheat seedlings for 2010 totalled 37.335 million acres, while all-wheat plantings totalled 53.6 million acres.
Informa also adjusted its US 2010 crop production estimates. The firm pegged US 2010 corn output at 12.54 billion bushels and soy production at 3.38 billion bushels.
