EU beef imports up January to September

EU beef imports totalled 225,000 tonnes from January to September, up 12 percent compared with the same period in 2004, according to Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA).

Beef shipments from Brazil mainly accounted for the rise in imports.

Meanwhile, EU beef exports from January to September totalled 106,000 tonnes, down by 60,000 tonnes year-on-year. This was mainly because exports to Russia, a major importer, fell by almost half to 63,000 tonnes, MLA said.
