Cargill sets up US$14 million seafood plant in Vietnam's Dong Thap province
Cargill has started construction of a seafood-processing plant, with an initial capital of US$14 million, in Sa Dec IZ in the southern province of Dong Thap.
The plant will have an estimated capacity of 120,000 tonnes a year and is expected to be operational by the end of next year.
The plant's capacity will be boosted to 800,000 tonnes in the second stage.
Meanwhile, a tra and basa processing plant worth VND75 billion (US$4.7 million) is to be built in Cao Lanh City in the same province, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.
The new plant, financed by To Chau JSC, is slated for completion in April, 2008 and will hire 1,200 workers. To Chau is a seafood exporter based in south-west Vietnam.
