French government to revitalize pig farms with US443-million aid

French farm minister Michel Barnier announced that the government would aid pig farms with a EUR30-million (US$43-million) budget.

The fund is aimed to assist pig farmers in debt, those young farmers and recent investors to meet the interest charges on their loans.

France will support pig farmers to maintain a diversified sector, according to Barnier. It will come into operation on January 1, 2008.
