Hong Kong will not raise import quota for mainland chickens
Hong Kong would not raise its daily import quota for chickens from the Chinese mainland before the winter solstice, the local Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said. This is due to continued bird flu outbreaks in the mainland.
China's agriculture ministry has informed the bureau that sporadic outbreaks of bird flu might still occur in the mainland during winter and early spring, although all efforts are being made to curb the disease.
Currently, Hong Kong only allows a daily maximum of 30,000 live chickens from the Chinese mainland.
