Quanying (Fujian) Technology invests in fish harvesting facility in China

Quanying (Fujian) Technology Co. Ltd will invest AUD300 million (US$268.7 million) to build a fish harvesting facility in China at Zhao'an, some 200 kilometres from Xiamen in Fujian Province.

The company has engaged aquaculture system specialist, Radaqua to develop a two-staged multi-species marine recirculation system, predominantly for the commercial cultivation of Coral Trout and Grouper utilising the MRAS technology.

The company based in Glenview will build a farm which plans to produce 5,000 tonnes of marine finfish per year following a phased development, within a 16.6 hectare bio-secure site, with all nutrient and energy streams being fully utilised. Stage one is a 500-tonne annual production facility, within an indoor closed environment.  Stage two is a progressive 5,000-tonne expansion once the initial cultured seafood product reaches market potential from the stage one development. At full capacity this single facility will be similar in volume to the total annual production of some sectors of the Australian aquaculture industry.

The investor Group of Quanying (Fujian) Technology Co. Ltd, toured Australian production facilities and hatcheries in early 2013 and is set to commence construction in December 2013 after a ground breaking ceremony at the end of November. Radaqua Managing Director Rod Missen pointed out that it has been a long way to enter the Chinese market.

Agribusiness has become a priority for the Chinese Government, bearing in mind the growing middle class. Accordingly, in order to feed the Fujian province, which has a population greater than the whole of Australia (37.2 million), no fish will be exported from this facility, as all the harvested products, grouper and coral trout, will be consumed by local market demand.
