An eFeedLink exclusive
Price summary
Prices of Philippine feed grains were up again over the week as livestock and feed producers are cramming for the expected surge in the first quarter of 2014.
Except for US soymeal and fishmeal, all feed grain prices posted increases with coconut oil at the highest at PHP2 a kilo.
Traders are expecting more increases of feed grains in the coming days two weeks before the onset of New Year.
Market Analysis
Meanwhile, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has begun supplying farmers some seed supplies after supertyphoon Haiyan struck at the beginning of the planting season.
In a report by GMA News, FAO will deliver rice and corn seeds to affected provinces in the Visayas region. The agency said more than 1,000 farmers from the hardest hit Eastern and Western Visayas will receive 40-kilogram bag of seeds. FAO is also expected to deliver fertilizers and small irrigation facilities.
The seeds are part of the agency's programme to help rehabilitate devastated farmlands in the region. The government is also keen on recovery efforts on destroyed coconut trees in the provinces which are the main livelihood source of the people. Coconut oil, copra meal and rice bran are feed byproducts of coconut and rice.
The government expects full rehabilitation programmes to be completed by 2017.
