Marel's equipment on track for installation to South Africa's I&J

Press release

An assortment of Marel equipment has been sent for installation to I&J (Irvin and Johnson Ltd) in Cape Town, South Africa.

The success of any installation depends heavily on properly training key employees. For this reason, a cross-section of people from I&J visited Marel in Iceland on October 16-19, 2012, along with staff from Marel's South Africa office. The group took part in training, familiarisation, discussions and preparations for a successful start-up.

I&J is a leader in the seafood industry and is reorganising its on-shore fish processing plant. When they turned to Marel in order to secure the newest technology and best equipment, it was the continuation of a long-lasting partnership. Their last major renovations were also with Marel 15 years ago.

Working closely together, Marel found an ideal solution for I&J's hake further processing plant in Woodstock, Cape Town. The complete processing solution includes cooling, a gentle handling in-feed system, a new 28-station trimming line, I-Cut 22 PortionCutter, TargetBatcher and Innova software modules including Innova Yield Control, Innova Trimming and Innova Packing.

The visitors spent time inspecting the system, discussing the product flow and system function, and working with the Innova team and Marel project groups. They also took the opportunity to visit a couple of fish processing plants in Reykjavik in order to see Marel equipment and solutions in action. The equipment will be installed in the next few weeks during the Christmas/New Year period.
