Good times ahead for Polish beef exports to EU
Polish beef exports are steadily increasing despite falling meat prices in its major sale markets, according to local media reports.
Although Polish beef does not have a established reputation comparatively, the country's recent membership into the European Union has already resulted in huge sales increases in the EU market.
During the first eight months of the current year Poland beef exports amounted to 150,000 tonnes, which is 16% higher compared to the same period last year. However, sales earnings have increased by only 9% due to a decline in beef purchase prices in the European Union.
Jerzy Wierzbicki, an official representative of Polish Meat Cattle Association commented: ''Despite export increases, these results are not satisfactory for us.''
"An attractive price is the main advantage of Polish exporters in the EU beef market. Most of the Polish beef is traditionally supplied to Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Spain. and we can't say that we use our full potential,'' he added.
In addition to beef, since the beginning of the year, exports of Polish live cattle and calves to Western Europe came up to 75 million euros.
