Russia temporarily bans Canadian meat

The Russian supervisory board for animal and plant health provisionally banned meat imports from Canada to its eastern region Primorje.

The ban resulted from the alleged falsifying of veterinary certificates among Canadian exporters. Out of 534 cases, Russian authorities found 400 false documents.

There were suspicions circulating that the Canadian declared meat actually originated from China. Meat imports from China to Russia have been banned since 2004.
