Peru's October fishmeal production rises strongly on-year
 

Peru's fishmeal production rose strongly in October, the Ministry of Production said in a report Friday.

The total fish haul was 97,700 tonnes in October compared with 57,800 tonnes in October 2005.

Peru exported 36,300 tonnes of fishmeal in October, compared with 19,700 tonnes in October last year.

Overall fish exports brought in US$85.7 million in October compared with US$36.2 million in October 2005.

Peru regularly imposes bans on anchovy fishing to protect the stock and this year was no exception. For example, it opened a new fishing season on Dec. 2 but set strict quotas for the fleet.
