Canada's Cattlemen's Association to market 'healthy' beef
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association is planning a pilot plant to produce "healthy" beef products that will be enhanced with bioactive fatty acids such as omega-3 and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) according to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
CCA president Hugh Lynch-Staunton said Friday this follows in the footsteps of egg producers strategy of omega-3 eggs.
The project has received a grant of about CAN$300,000 (US$295,200) from the federal government and will get about CAN$96,000 (US$94,460) of in-kind contributions from the industry, he said.
Lynch-Staunton hailed it as the government programmme would that would allow groups like the CCA and the Beef Information Centre to help put dollars into the pockets of the Canadian cattle industry.
