Denmark's Hamlet Protein to assert feed business in US
Danish company, Hamlet Protein, announced plans to build a US$20-million animal feed ingredient plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The plant will produce a vegetable protein made from soy and is estimated to employ around 20 to 30 people at its initial stage.
The feed ingredient is designed for piglets to improve digestion in their premature gut.
Ole Anderson, chairman of Hamlet Protein Construction, said the construction is scheduled in April, and production is planned nine months after.
The Denmark-based company aims to double the production rate by 2010 or 2011, optimistic about the potential customers in North America.
Anderson expressed that Genencor International could potentially supply enzymes for the plant while Cargill could be a source of soy.
