Ukraine to produce over 1.5 million tonnes of soy in 2010
The general soy production in Ukraine for 2010 amounted to more than 1.5 million tonnes, due to a 46% increase in soy sowing areas in the country compared to 2009, according to Ukrainian media.
In Ukraine, the average yield index of the oilseed totaled 18.9 c/ha at matching fields. On the other hand, in southern oblasts (irrigated areas) where mineral nitrogen fertilizers, chemical protectants, and fungicides were used, the average yield index of the oilseed amounted to 23.7 c/ha.
At the same time, when biological preparations were made during the growth of soy, the oilseed yield increases by one third, and reaches the average level of 26.4 c/ha in Ukraine, and 34.6 c/ha at irrigated areas in southern oblasts of Ukraine.
