Subsidies needed to boost Nigeria's poultry production
Nigeria's poultry industry needs subsidies for feeds, vaccines and drugs in order to produce more.
Dr. Abudulkadir Usman Junaidu, National Auditor of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), said the country's poultry farmers also require more technical support and soft loans from the government.
Junaidu said subsidies and incentives could help improve this vital agricultural subsector, even reducing the menace of livestock theft and unemployment rate to the point of them being a thing of the past.
Young Nigerians should be encouraged to become farmers, he said. Junaidu also praised the French Embassy in Nigeria for recently sponsoring a stakeholders' meeting for the members of the association in the state. He said the Embassy plans to sponsor another training programme for poultry farmers in the northwest soon on how to improve production.
