Pierre foods purchases Zartic

Pierre Foods, Inc. has completed a deal to buy Zartic, Inc. and its affiliated distribution company, Zar Tran, Inc.

Cincinnati, Ohio-based Pierre Foods, Inc. announced yesterday that it has purchased substan Zartic, Inc. and its affiliated distribution company, Zar Tran, Inc.

Zartic manufactures and distributes food items such as packaged beef, poultry, pork, and veal products.

Pierre previously announced on November 5, 2006 its intent to acquire Zartic, which is headquartered in Rome, Georgia.

The aggregate preliminary purchase price was US$94 million plus the assumption of certain liabilities. Pierre financed the purchase through an amendment to its existing Credit Agreement.
