Prices of Chicken Remain Stable in Philippines Province
The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics Office (Baso)-Negros Occidental Provincial Operation Center in the Philippines stated that there is no price movement for the prices of dressed chicken in the market.
Prices remained at P100 per kilo since the middle of last month, according to Joaly Cabarles, Baso chief.
Despite their projection that prices would increase by 20 percent, no movement occurred, he added.
Cabarles said that the increase might be felt a week before the Yuletide Season when the demand for dressed chicken is expected to go up.
He had earlier stated that the rising demand for dressed chicken pushed (chicken) prices higher.
With the expected 20 percent increase in prices by December, prices could reach P110, P115 to P120 per kilo.
On the other hand, Cabarles said local chicken growers are preparing to supply chicken in the domestic market.
However they are anticipating the shortage of chicken with the influx of balikbayan and overseas Filipino workers in the city and the province.
For Negrenses' consumption alone, Cabarles said the province can accommodate the demand.
Cabarles said the province is producing almost two million locally produced chicken, a good number that could supply the demand of Negrosanons.
Governor Joseph Marañon had earlier said the province will not be able to supply Negrenses' demand for chicken for the forthcoming December holidays.
Maranon revealed the shortage on chicken supply was due to the not so well-defined program on production in the province.
