Malaysia and New Zealand sign agreement for Halal certification
Malaysia and New Zealand have signed an agreement on halal certification for meat and meat products to be exported from New Zealand to Malaysia.
Veterinary Services Department director-general, Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin, said with the signing of the Malaysia Meat and Meat Products Halal Requirements (Overseas Market Access Notification) Notice 2010, Malaysians no longer have to worry about the halal status of meat and dairy products from New Zealand.
The signing of the agreement was made on Monday (Dec 13). Also present at the signing were New Zealand's High Commissioner to Malaysia, David Kersey, New Zealand's Food Safety Authority director-general, Wayne MacNee, and Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Halal Hub director, Zainal Abidin Jaffar.
