Tyson to include chicken, cattle suppliers in its animal welfare programme
Tyson Foods informed Iowa cattle producers that suppliers must meet the auditing requirements of the FarmCheck animal welfare programme in 2014 to qualify as a supplier as the company is expanding its programme to include its beef and chicken suppliers.
"When we launched the FarmCheck programme in October 2012, we said we would expand auditing of chicken and cattle farms by January of 2014," Tyson Foods spokesman Worth Sparkman informed about the programme, which initially included hog farms supplying the company.
He added that the company has been conducting pilot audits and are developing finals for both species, so they're on track to launch them in January 2014.
