Canadian body eyes selling over 1 million tonnes wheat to India
The Canadian Wheat Board expects to sell over 1.0 million tonnes of wheat to India this year, the Press Trust of India reported Wednesday, quoting a director from the wheat board.
"We hope to export over 1.0 million tonnes of wheat to India this year as the demand for wheat in this country is projected to grow because of growing population," Dave Burrows, a director at the wheat board said at a conference in the northern Indian city of Chandigarh, according to the report.
The Canadian Wheat Board sold 1.0 million tonnes of the grain to India last year and has already exported around 315,000 tonnes so far this year, the report said.
Canada's total wheat output is around 18 million-20 million tonnes. The country requires just 2 million tonnes for its own consumption, while the remainder is exported, the report said.
