Vietnam free of bird flu for 1 year

Vietnam has not seen a single case of bird flu for a year, with the last one reported on Dec 15, 2005, Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.

As part of the nation's efforts to prevent bird flu, local authorities have mapped out concrete action plans and implement strict preventive measures, including disinfecting poultry farms and slaughtering houses.

They were also required to closely supervise poultry imports in border provinces, conduct education campaigns and vaccinate poultry nationwide.

The country completed two rounds of vaccination for its 126 million poultry this year.
