US urges Taiwan to resume American beef imports
The US has urged Taiwan to resume US beef imports. Scott S. Sindelar, chief of the agricultural affairs section of the American Institute in Taiwan, expressed disappointment that Taiwan has not yet lifted its ban "despite the overwhelming evidence that US beef is safe."
Taiwan had reinstated its ban on American beef in June following a new case of mad cow disease, or BSE, in the US.
Sindelar's comments came not long after Japan's recent announcement that it would resume US beef imports, after a two-year ban due to BSE.
