Restrictions on Feed Ingredients Imposed in Canada to Battle Mad Cow
Canada has unveiled draft rules designed to combat mad cow disease by banning the use of cattle parts suspected of spreading the brain-wasting ailment in both cattle feed and pet food, the government said.
The proposed restrictions, which ban the use of cattle brains and spinal-cord tissue, are an expansion of a joint US and Canadian 1997 ban on feeding cattle parts to cattle, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in statement. A public comment period on the rules runs until Feb. 24, 2005.
