Thai agribusiness group see GM crops to curb soaring feed prices

The Agricultural and Food Business Committee in Thailand calls on the government to push for more projects based on genetically modified (GM) plants in the light of soaring feed prices worldwide.

Committee chairman Pornsilp Phatcharintanakul suggests the government should promote more on animal feed crops, including corn and cassava, as they are also another source of alternative energies.

Pornsilp also suggested the expansion of GM feed crops to Laos and Vietnam where Thailand heavily invests in crop planting.

He said production of animal feed crops next year is likely to grow by 20 percent and suggests animal farmers to use new production technology to add value to their produce.
