Laos increases livestock raising by 28 percent

Viengkham district in Laos announced last week that its animal raising had increased by 28.12 percent from the 2006.

Plantation and Animal Raising Division, Agriculture and Forestry Office of Viengkham district reported that the district has 52,532 cattle, goats, pigs and poultry raised by its farmers including 944 buffaloes, 6,926 cows, 1,106 goats, 1,887 pigs and 41,669 poultry.

Viengkham, which is in the province of Vientiane, has plenty of agricultural potentials for both family-run farming and large-scale farming.

Thus, the authorities of Vientiane province encourage local farmers and foreign entities to invest in livestock for both domestic and foreign consumption.

Animal raising is among the priority plans of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Laos to lift its agricultural value in the near future.
