US Exporters Buy 147,000 MT US Corn From Foreign Sellers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that U.S. exporters have purchased 147,000 metric tons of U.S. corn from foreign firms for resale to unknown destinations.

The USDA also announced separately Thursday private export sales of 147,000 tons of U.S. corn for delivery to unknown destinations in the 2003-04 marketing year.

USDA Foreign Agriculture Service officials said they did not know if the two announcements were related.

The corn marketing year began Sept. 1.

U.S. exporters are required to report to the USDA sales of 100,000 tons or more of corn made in the same day to the same destination by 1500 ET (2000 GMT) the next business day, according to the USDA's Foreign Agriculture Service. Any export sales under 100,000 tons must be reported on a weekly basis.
