Pakistan's egg prices up by over 25% in November

During the month of November, Pakistan's egg prices have increased by more than 25% in the market, bringing its rate from PKR1OO-105 (US$1.03-1.08) to PKR120-130 (US$1.24-1.34) per dozen.

The price of eggs is likely to increase with each passing day as its consumption takes boost in the cold weather conditions. Eggs, used in a variety of food products from biscuits and cakes to pasta, mayonnaise and it is considered an important ingredient for home-made dishes, were available in the retail market at PKR100-105 (US$1.03-1.08) per dozen during November this year.

Like in the past, the authorities concerned remained less bothered to check the sharp increase in egg price, giving a free hand to the poultry industry to fix the prices on their own.

General Secretary of Rawalpindi Poultry Association Chaudhry Asad said that the increase in prices of eggs is due to gap between demand and supply.
