Perdue Farms joins Truthful Labeling Coalition
Perdue Farms recently joined the Truthful Labeling Coalition (TLC), an organization that promotes accurate labeling of fresh chicken products.
The coalition consists of more than 30,000 concerned citizens from all 50 states and other leading poultry companies including Foster Farms, Gold'n Plump Poultry and Sanderson Farms.
The TLC, with the support of leading consumer and health groups, aims to ensure the truthful labeling of fresh chicken products for consumers to make informed choices.
Michael Helgeson, chief executive officer of TLC, said that Perdue's membership would give additional support and attention around a very critical issue.
The TLC has led an aggressive campaign urging the USDA to label only 100 percent natural chicken, with no additives such as saltwater or seaweed extract, as "100% all natural."
The organization is further challenging the USDA's inconsistent and contradictory decisions on "raised without antibiotics" claims made on labels.
USDA and FDA are also urged by the coalition to adopt consistent and fair labeling standards.
