China to increase the scale of swine farms by 50% in 2015
China's Ministry of Agriculture has announced the 2014 list of standardised livestock demonstration farms last month. A total of 347 enterprises have been identified by the Ministry of Agriculture as standardised livestock demonstration farms. The breakdowns are as followed: 174 swine farms, 49 layer farms, 27 broiler farms, 50 sheep farms, 24 cattle farms and 23 dairy farms.
Standardised livestock demonstration farms were started in 2010 by the Ministry of Agriculture. They hope to increase the scale of livestock farms in 2015 by 10%-15% as compared to 2010 through a series of demonstration activities conducted by the farms. Hence, the scale of swine farms is expected to increase by 50% in 2015 based on the Ministry's purpose of building the demonstration farms.
