Mexico sees rise in livestock output and export
Mexico's livestock output and exports, including pork and cattle, witness an overall rise through October, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture.
The Mexican state of Sonora exported 44,649 tonnes of pork through the first ten months of 2012, an increase of 9.4% compared to the same period in 2011. This generated about US$227 million in revenue and its main destinations were the US, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Singapore.
Japan imported 37,558 tonnes of Mexican pork during this time, an increase of 4,000 tonnes over the same 2011 time frame.
The Mexican state exported 224.428 head of cattle to the US up through October, generating US$166 million in revenue.
There currently 17 federally inspected plants in Sonora subsidised by the local Ministry of Agriculture. The plants' continued maintenance and operations lead to very high export figures, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
