Argentina's 07-08 wheat export sales at 7 million tonnes

As of December 7, Argentina's 07-08 wheat export commitments remained at 7.02 million  tonnes, according to the Agriculture Secretariat's latest data.

About 11 million tonnes of wheat are expected to be available for export from the new crop, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

This week, the government extended the closure of the wheat export registry through the end of the year while it studies the damage to the new crop from recent frosts.

Two weeks ago, the Agriculture secretary opened the wheat export registry, which had been shut since March.

Old crop (06-07) wheat sales totaled 8.9 million tonnes as of December 7, according to the Secretariat.

By this time last year Argentina had sold 8.2 million tonnes of 05-06 wheat.

The Secretariat provided the following updated information for 2006-07 and 2005-06 wheat sales in thousands of tonnes by destination.
