Ukraine increases corn and soy sowing areas
Ukraine is planning to increase corn and soy sowing areas, according to Sergei Kvasha, a representative from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
According to him, the present climate conditions can lead to completely different structure of winter crops sowing areas. Previously Ukraine had 3.6 million ha of corn sowings, but in these conditions the sowings will total 4-5 million ha.
According to Vladimir Klimenko, President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, corn may become the strategic crop for Ukraine, because corn supports cattle livestock industry and biodiesel production.
As a reminder, due to adverse weather conditions, one third of winter crop sowings will need re-sowing works in the spring. Experts forecast that agrarians will re-sow winter crops primarily with corn and soy.
