Lusakert poultry farm will not raise egg costs ahead New Year
Lusakert head said the poultry farm will not raise its egg prices ahead of New Year festivities, with the average price of one egg at AMD50-60 (US$0.13-$0.16).
The current price of eggs at the local market is in tune with their prime cost, said Minas Yepremian, head of Lusakert poultry farm.
In a reference to a drastic fall of eggs' prices in summer, he said it was the outcome of overproduction.
He said instead of destroying overproduced eggs the owners of poultry farms began to sell them at dumping prices. He also denied allegations that the dumping was part of a scheme designed by large poultry farms to takeover smaller companies.
"Every businessman should be provided with opportunities to win the market and reducing the price is the most primitive way to attain it, but no company that has a self-respect will do so. Now we can see that the dumping did not result in a takeover," he said.
According to Armen Poghosian, chairman of the Association of Consumers, per capita consumption of eggs in Armenia is 210 a year.
