China's soy planting area shows decrease

Soy planting area in China fell 3.3% in 2010 from last year, a decline for two years running, according to a report released by the Rural Economic Research Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The gap between home-grown soy demand and supply continues to widen, the report said. The country's soy imports this year is expected to top 50 million tonnes, up 2% from last year.

Statistics from the Customs show China imported 40.16 million tonnes of soy in January-September.
