European Commission begins Ukrainian poultry farms inspection

Inspectors of the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection (DG SANCO) have begun investigations on Ukraine's potential exporters of poultry meat.

"December 6 through December 10, 2010, in Ukraine there will be a mission of inspectors of the FVO office concerning the assessment of the current system of control of health of animals during production of poultry meat, eggs and products from them for possible exports to member states of the EU," reads the statement.

The statement reads that a positive assessment depends upon findings of the inspection at enterprises in Odesa region, Kyiv region and Cherkasy region.

The State Committee for Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine expects the European Commission to make a decision in May 2011 concerning the provision of Ukrainian poultry companies with a right to exporting their produce to the European market.

Ukraine has obtained the right to supply to European countries fish, dry milk, honey and horses.

Earlier, the European Commission said the Ukrainian system of control over the products from poultry meat and eggs bound for exports to the EU meet the European standards.
