Global meat consumption seen up by 21.3 percent

 

 

World's consumption of meat will increase with 21.3 percent between 2005 and 2015 as more people have more money to spend.

 

In 2005, production was around 260 million tonnes as two third of the projected growth is expected to be in China.

 

Big winners of the increased consumption are poultry and pork. The firm also revealed that poultry is projected to increase with 24 million tonnes to a total of 105 million tonnes between 2005 and 2015 (up 25 percent). World population will eat an approximately 125 million tonnes of pork in 2015. This is over 21 million tonnes more than in 2005 (up 10 percent).

 

Beef will increase with 13 percent (8 million tonnes) to a total of 70 million tonnes in 2015.
