US provides financial aid in aquaculture researches
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have given US$150,000 to support studies on the effectiveness of a treatment for fungal disease in walleye fish and the safety of a medicated feed for shrimp.
The studies will be funded through grants intended to support development of new animal medicines for minor species or minor uses in major species, said the FDA.
Researchers at the US Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Centre were awarded about US$50,000 for a study on the use of hydrogen peroxide to control saprolegniasis, a fungal disease of walleye.
Researchers at the Agrilife Research Mariculture Laboratory were awarded about US$100,000 for a study on the use of oxytetracycline in medicated shrimp feed.
