Chile aquaculture output continues to fall in October
The fisheries and aquaculture sector once again delivered a low blow to Chilean industrial production, which fell 5.8 percent in October.
For the same period, industrial sales fell by 3.6 percent and domestic sales registered a fall of 1.3 percent, according to the Foreign Commerce of the Society for Manufacturing Advancement (SOFOFA).
The seafood segment observed a regression of 30.5 percent over the last 12 months, due to the sharp adjustment in salmon production as a result of the infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) virus.
According to the SOFOFA report, that fall was also the result of a major decline in fishmeal production.
The data indicates the fishing sector registered a decline of almost two percent in industrial production compared to October of last year.
