Brazilian pork exports rebound to annual average levels
Brazil's pork exports should rebound in 2011 to the annual average of 600,000 tonnes reported for the last five years, the Brazilian pork export association, or Abipecs, said on Thursday (Dec 2).
This year, shipments are expected to reach 561,882 tonnes, bringing in US$1.37 billion.
Abipecs is confident that exports will rise next year especially because Brazil is expected to start selling pork to key markets such as the US, EU, and South Korea.
Even though exports declined, the domestic market has been strong, according to Abipecs.
Pork consumption in Brazil is seen rising 3.6% in 2010, to 2.677 million tonnes, from 2.583 million tonnes last year. Consumption per capita, meanwhile, should advance to 14.8 kilogrammes from 14.2 kilogrammes.
