PIC to expand in South Korea

International supplier of pig breeding stock, PIC, recently sent 556 great grandparent (GGP) and grandparent (GP) stocks to its franchise partner in South Korea.

The shipment, delivered by air, originated from Canada and will populate a new farm in Uiseong province, 290 kilometre southeast of Seoul.

The farm is in a remote mountainous location to ensure the long-term health of the herd. It also features a two-storey design for the breed-to-wean production phases.

PIC, a division of Genus, is stocking another 450-sow farm to produce PIC breeding stock, from its nucleus farm in Korea.

Bongjae Lee, President of PIC Korea, said the development of additional production capacity reflects increasing demand for PIC breeding stock.

This has been achieved by a combination of the superior performance of PIC genetics on customer farms and a revised product portfolio aligned to the requirements of the Korean market which places a high premium on meat quality.

PIC is the international leader in providing genetically superior pig breeding stock with offices at more than 40 offices in the US, EU and Asia.
