Stringent Quality Checks On Thailand Chicken Exports
Despite more flexible inspection regimes for chemical residues by the European Union, the Thai Livestock Development Department said yesterday that chicken export products and farm produce from Thailand was still subject to 100% inspection on quality.
Department head Yukol Limlamthong said the stringent quality inspection would convince importers in the EU that chicken exports from Thailand were free of chemical residues, particularly nitrofurans.
Throughout the country, the policy aims to standardise the quality of exports from more than 300 slaughterhouses.
Yukol said that farmers and exporters whose products were found to contain residues of prohibited chemicals would face serious penalties, such as being forced to destroy the whole consignment of a product as well as losing their licence.
