Brazil's Avepar invests US$16.8 million in slaughter house
Brazilian chicken producer Avepar has invested 30 million Brazilian reals (US$16.8 million) in a slaughterhouse in the southern state of Santa Catarina, daily financial newspaper Gazeta Mercantil reported on Monday (December 3, 2007).
With the new facility, Avepar aims to have the capacity to slaughter 160,000 chickens a day by the first half of 2008, Gazeta reported.
Avepar also aims to reach a capacity to slaughter 200,000 chickens a day in five years, the newspaper said. Brazil's state-owned development bank Bndes, state-run bank Banco do Brasil SA and a regional development bank provided 60 percent of the BRL30 million. The remainder of the investment was provided by Avepar.
Avepar expects to provide 1,500 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs at the plant.
