Tajikistan witnesses rise in poultry output

Tajikistan's poultry production has increased, leading to reduced imports of chicken and eggs.

Till September 2012, the 34 poultry farms in the country produced 129 million eggs and 351,900 tonnes of poultry, which is 14.8 million eggs and 242,100 tonnes of meat higher than same period of last year.

While the import of eggs has stopped, that of chicken meat has slightly dipped.

The government is now set to reconstruct several abandoned poultry farms to increase the production of hens and eggs annually.

Currently, the country has only two poultry processing plants, involved in the production of chicken meat, reported the Ministry of Agriculture.

The construction of the poultry farms is expected to commence in Shahritusskom and Panj districts and will produce 400 tonnes each.
