South Korea resumes poultry exports to Japan

After being shut out of the Japanese market in 2006 due to bird flu outbreak, South Korea has finally resumed fresh poultry exports to Japan.

All properly-processed chicken and duck meat can now be shipped to Japan without restrictions, said South Korea's Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

All meat slaughtered and processed from Wednesday onwards will be subjected to the new rules, which would help local poultry farmers, said an official.

South Korea exported 349 tonnes of fresh chicken and 358 tonnes of duck meat in 2006.
